Today in arts24 live from the Cannes film festival, Kevin Costner is presenting “Horizon: An American Saga”, a Western he directed, co-wrote and stars in with Sienna Miller. It’s been 20 years since his last appearance here on the Croisette. You might know him best for “The Body Guard”, his Oscar-winning film “Dances With Wolves” or the TV series “Yellowstone”. The new film is a monumental project consisting of four episodes about the conquest of the American West. It’s beautifully shot, with impressive period detail and a talented cast.
In this arts24 show we’re also talking about two body horror movies. We hear from Demi Moore and Dennis Quaid about the questions their gory film “The Substance” raises about men and women and from French actress Noémie Merlant about her first film as director, a revenge drama called “The Balconettes”. Finally, Japanese animation powerhouse Studio Ghibli is making history with an honorary Palme d’Or at Cannes – the first time the honour has been given to a group. The studio is the creative home of Hayao Miyazaki, arguably the most admired living animation director.
